Ethology -scientific study of animal behavior, Niko Tinbergen
hibernation -a behavior where an animal reduces its metabolic rate
Estivation -Opposite of hibernation. Occurs in the summer
Migration -a behavior where animals move from one location to another
Circadian Rhythm -internal body clock
reflex actions -involuntary response to a stimulus
kinesis -changes its movement in a non-directional way in response to cute, Slowing down or speeding up
Taxis -directed movement either towards or away a stimulus.
fixed action pattern -predictable series of automatic actions
Altruistic behavior -reduces an individual's fitness while increasing others
communication -a process where one animal transmits info to another
pheromone -a secreted chemical signal used to trigger. (smell)
auditory communication -communication based on sound
visual communication -communication involves visual warnings
tactile signal -communicated thru touch
phototaxis -response to light
chemotaxis -chemicals response
geotaxis -gravity response
