what is vital to the safety and well being of the residents professional and ethical behavior
1st Guideline Legal and Ethical Behavior Keep all resident information confidential (private). This is one of the Residents Rights. All team members must keep resident information confidential. Only discuss residents with specific members of the care team
2nd Keep staff information confidential. Do not share private information about your coworkers at home or anywhere else
3rd Be honest at all times. Communicate honestly and clearly with members of the care team. Be honest when documenting resident care. Be truthful when reporting the hours you have worked. Do not take items that do not belong to you
4th Be trustworthy. Trusting others is important in facilities. Residents must be able to trust staff members, employers must be able to trust their employees, employees need to trust their supervisors.
what is a way that employees can show that they are trustworthy is to be at work on time each day. when an employee fails to show up for work, the boss cannot trust or count on that employee
what is a way that employees can gain trustworthiness with their employers employers trust that employees will come to them if they have a problem. This is part of following the chain of command
5th be positive and professional. Residents deserve caregivers who try to make their days as pleasant as possible. A person who is positive and encouraging is someone people like to be around
6th Be tactful. Tact is the ability to understand what is proper and appropriate when dealing with others. It is the ability to speak and act without offending others
7th Treat all residents with respect, and be empathetic .Showing respect means being polite, kind, and accepting. Empathy means being able to share in and understand the feelings and troubles of others
what does a caring person do with a person who is ill a caring person is empathetic with a person who is ill, a caring person also respect an ill persons actions or beliefs about the illness, despite her own feelings
8th follow all facility policies, rules and procedures. Document care accurately and immediately after it is given
9th Do your assigned tasks. If you make a mistake report it to the nurse immediately. This can help minimize damage and prevent further problems
10th Do not accept tips or gifts from residents or their family members or friends (do not accept monetary gifts because it is unprofessional and can lead to conflict)
11th Be patient. Nursing assistants must care for residents without getting frustrated. Activities of daily living (eating, dressing, and elimination) may take older people much longer and use up much of their energy leaving them tired.
what should residents be allowed and what should your response be residents should be allowed to do tasks at their own pace. the more patient you are, the better care you will provide
12th report abuse or suspected abuse of residents
13th do not report to work under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or chemical substances
if a resident, family member, or visitor offers to tip an NA or tries to give an NA a gift she should politely refuse (receive payment from the facility for the work they do - also unprofessional and can lead to conflict). she can explain that it would not be ethical for her to accept it and that it is against facilities policies
