TermDefinition
Data A collection of information that can be analyzed and used to understand things.
Graphs Used to recoginze patterns that cannot be seen in a data table.
x-axis Found on the horizontal line on a graph.
y-axis Found on the vertical line on a graph.
Key Also called a legend. It's a list or note on a graph explaining the meaning of each symbol or variable.
Title Found at the top of a graph and descrbes the graph's subject.
Manipulating Variable Indepenent Variable X-axis What doe MIX stand for?
Dependent Variable Responding Variable Y-axis What does DRY stand for?
Scientic Method A problem solving process/steps that uses observations and experiments to answer questions.
Observation Involves watching and recording details about an event using one's senses.
Inference The process of drawing conclusins based on evidence and reasoning.
Hypothesis An educated guess or prediction of what you believe will happen.
Control Variable The variable that stays the same in a experiment. Also known as the constant.
Independent Variable The variable that you intentionaly "on purpose" change. Known as the manipulated variable and "the cause".
Dependent Variable The variable that changes as a result of the independent variable. Know as the responding variable and "the effect".
Experiments Used to test your hypothesis. Most collect two types of data.
Qualitative Observations Observations using any of your 5 senses. It includes descriptions, appearance or behaviors.
Quantitative Observations Observations that are measurable, has numbers, statistics, weight, or quantity.
Analyze Means to explore, explain, and separate into parts of close studying.
Conclusions Is a summary of results and is the answer to your question.
