| Empirical Evidence | The observations,measurements,and other types of date that people gather and test to support and evaluate scientific explanations |
| Theory | the explanation for some phenomenon that is based on obsvations. |
| Law | statements, based on repeated experiments or observations, that describe or predict a range of natural phenomena. |
| experiment | any process in which measurements are used and tests are carried out to verify or refute a hypothesis. |
| hypothesis | A statement about a specific research question, and it outlines the expected result of the experiment. |
| dependent variable | Two multiple regression analyses were performed with each contraceptive measure as a dependent variable. |
| observation | an act or instance of noticing or perceiving. |
| independent variable | the variable you manipulate or vary in an experimental study to explore its effects. |
| data | the smallest units of factual information that can be used as a basis for calculation, reasoning, or discussion. |
| model | a representation of real-world phenomena. |
| engineering | the application of scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to design, build, and maintain structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes. |
| technology | the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes or applications |
| prototype | a human-made object that is used as the standard of measurement of some physical quantity to base all measurement of that physical quantity against |
| trade off | when one trait cannot increase without a decrease in another (or vice versa). |
| risk benefit analysis | A specialised field of applied science that involves reviewing scientific data and studies in order to evaluate risks associated with certain hazards. |
| life cycle analysis | a standardised method to quantitatively assess environmental impacts. |
| Pugh chat | allows for the comparison of a number of design candidates leading ultimately to which best meets a set of criteria. |
