| Word | Meaning |

| pupa | a stage in an insects life when it goes through major change, or metamorphosis," to become an adult; during this stage it is covered in a protective layer, or casing, and does not move or eat |
| larva | the young, or offspring, that have to undergo a major change before becoming an adult; most have a worm like appearance; they eat and shed their skin many times as they grow |
| adult | a fully developed living thing that has the ability to reproduce and make more of its kind |
| complete metamorphosis | a change from egg to adult that has four stages; the young changes a lot and looks completely different from an adult |
| incomplete metamorphosis | a change from egg to adult that has three stages; the young and adult look very similar |
| egg | the first stage a living thing's life; an oval or round shell that contains a new organism |
| nymph | the offspring that emerges from the egg that looks like a smaller version of an adult but without wings; it sheds its skin as it grows |
| seed | the first stage in a plant's life cycle |
| sprout | when roots and a stem grow out of a seed |
| seedling | a small plant that grows from the seed and makes its first leaves |
| plant | A plant that flowers or prepares to make seeds |
| mature plant | A full size plant whose flowers or seed pods have been pollinated to make fruit or more seeds |
| life cycle | a series of stages that an organism goes through during its life from birth to death. The series repeats in the same order for every generation. |
| pollination | a process that helps plants able to make more seeds, or reproduce |
