MrG Force&Motion
Unit 3 Investigating Force and Motion
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Equal Forces/Balanced | Two or more forces that act on an object in a different directions with the same size strength; result in no change in position, direction, or motion. |
| Force | A push or pull that can change the position or motion of an object/ material. |
| Friction | A force that acts in the opposite direction to movement. |
| Gravity | The force that pulls objects towards each other. |
| Magnetism | An attracting or repelling force that causes a magnetic material to move |
| Mechanical Energy | Energy of motion |
| Unequal Forces/Unbalanced | Forces that are acting on an object in different directions and are not the same strength; results in a change in position, direction, or motion. |
| Attract | To exert a force that draws objects or particles together. |
| Direction | The line of movement of an object or force, relative to a point. |
| Position | The location of an object relative to a reference point. |
| Rest | The state of an object when its position remains unchanged relative to reference point over time. |
| Motion | The act of Changing position or location |
| Kinetic Energy | The energy an object has because it is MOVING. |
| Potential Energy | It is energy that is held or stored, rather than being actively used or in motion. |
