| Pituitary Gland | A small endocrine gland located at the base of the brain that secretes hormones regulating growth, metabolism, and reproduction. |
| Hormone | A chemical messenger secreted by endocrine glands directly into the bloodstream to regulate body functions. |
| Ingestion | The process of taking food into the mouth. |
| Digestion | The mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into smaller components that can be absorbed. |
| Absorption | The process by which nutrients from digested food are taken into the bloodstream or lymph. |
| Elimination | The removal of indigestible substances and waste products as feces. |
| Esophagus | A muscular tube that connects the throat (pharynx) to the stomach and moves food via peristalsis. |
| Gallbladder | Stores and concentrates bile from the liver; releases it into the small intestine. |
