How do we define pain? is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that signals actual or potential tissue damage.
What factors effect reactions to pain affect how a person reacts to pain, including their age, culture, past experiences with pain, emotional state, anxiety levels, and overall health.
Compare and Contrast acute pain versus chronic pain Acute starts suddenly, is usually sharp, and signals injury or illness; it typically lasts a short time and goes away as the body heals. In contrast, chronic pain persists for months or longer, often without a clear cause
List effects of pain on the residents can cause physical effects such as fatigue, weakness, and limited ability to move. It can also lead to emotional problems like anxiety, depression, and irritability. Residents might show changes in behavior
Know the Nurse Aide's Role in Pain Management should report any signs of pain or discomfort the resident shows to the nurse right away. They should be gentle and patient when assisting residents who are in pain. The nurse aide can help residents with comfort measures, such as repositioning.
Discuss Comfort Measures are simple, non-medical actions that help reduce pain and promote relaxation and well-being for residents. These can include repositioning the resident to relieve pressure or stiffness, offering a warm or cool compress to soothe aches.
