Tube colorWhat is in it and what tests
Yellow Tube Additives are: Sodium polyanetholesulfonate (SPS) and ACD
ACD is a red cell preservative. Blood banking, human leukocyte, antigens, Phenotyping, paternity testing
RED tube No additive - for serum testing - chemistry and serology depts
Light Blue Additive: Sodium Citrate (PPT, PTT tests, fibinogen, fibring split) RATIO of 9:1 ** FOR coagulation studies and the will be rejected if not filled
RED plastic Silica additive, For chemistry and serology
Red/Gray, GOLD has a CLOT activator and a gel (thixotropic gel) Also called SST's
Green These are the heparin tubes! lithium heparin. Also may contain Ammonium heparin and sodium heparin. Tests: electrolytes...
Light Green lithium Heparin and gel PST's (plasma separator tubes)--- test for potassium....
Lavender EDTA Tests: CBC, hemoglobin, A1C, HgB, WBC, RBC
Gray potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride. Contains 'antiglycolytic agents' For: Glucose, alcohol, lactic acid and lactose
