| Tube color | What is in it and what tests |

| Yellow Tube | Additives are: Sodium polyanetholesulfonate (SPS) and ACD |
| ACD is | a red cell preservative. Blood banking, human leukocyte, antigens, Phenotyping, paternity testing |
| RED tube | No additive - for serum testing - chemistry and serology depts |
| Light Blue | Additive: Sodium Citrate (PPT, PTT tests, fibinogen, fibring split) RATIO of 9:1 ** FOR coagulation studies and the will be rejected if not filled |
| RED plastic | Silica additive, For chemistry and serology |
| Red/Gray, GOLD | has a CLOT activator and a gel (thixotropic gel) Also called SST's |
| Green | These are the heparin tubes! lithium heparin. Also may contain Ammonium heparin and sodium heparin. Tests: electrolytes... |
| Light Green | lithium Heparin and gel PST's (plasma separator tubes)--- test for potassium.... |

| Gray | potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride. Contains 'antiglycolytic agents' For: Glucose, alcohol, lactic acid and lactose |
