| Term | Definition |

| Bedpan | a portable container used for toileting by residents who are unable to get out of bed, allowing them to urinate or have a bowel movement while lying down |
| Catheter Care | the daily cleaning of the area around a urinary catheter to prevent infection, including washing the catheter tubing and the genital area with warm water and mild soap, always wiping front to back. |
| Urine Output | is the amount of urine a person produces, which helps monitor kidney function and overall health; normal output is about 1200–1500 mL per day for adults. |
| Indwelling cathers | the nurse aide should use gentle, downward motions (away from the body) when cleaning the catheter tubing and around the urinary opening. This helps prevent infection by keeping bacteria away from the urethra. |
| Elastic stockings | are tight-fitting socks that help improve blood flow, reduce swelling, and prevent blood clots in the legs. |
| Range of motion | is the full movement potential of a joint, measured by how far it can bend or straighten without pain. |
| Disposable briefs | are absorbent undergarments worn by individuals who have urinary or bowel incontinence to keep them dry and comfortable. |
| Pericare | is the gentle cleaning of the genital and anal areas to maintain hygiene and prevent infection. |
