Quarter 2 Sequence 2 Study Stack to review Immune and Reproductive Systems

TermDefinition
pathogen An agent that causes disease.
antibody A protein produced by the immune system to identify specific pathogens
primary immune response The first time the body is exposed to a pathogen. During this response, specialized cells produce antibodies that latch onto the pathogen and help destroy it. This process takes time, usually several days. 
secondary immune response Memory cells quickly recognize the pathogen because antibodies had already been created from the first exposure.
1st line of defense includes: skin, mucus, saliva, stomach acid
1st line of defense is for protection
2nd line of defense includes: pain, swelling, antibodies
allergen foreign material that the immune system confuses for a pathogen

asexual reproduction A type of reproduction in which only one parent organism or part of that organism produces a new organism. The parent and offspring are genetically identical.
sexual reproduction A type of reproduction where the genetic material from two different sex cells combines, producing an offspring that is a genetic combination of the two parents.
Reproductive System The organ system responsible for the production and fertilization of sperm and eggs and the carrying of a baby.

The female organs of the reproductive system ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, uterus, ovum (egg)
Ovum (egg) the female reproductive cell
