QuestionAnswer
What is a hypothesis in scientific inquiry? An idea or principle to be tested through experiments.
What is a controlled experiment? A test that eliminates biases or outside influences.
How does a theory differ from a hypothesis? A theory is a hypothesis supported by repeated experiments with high confidence.
What is a scientific law? A theory with an unusually high level of confidence.
How are science and culture related? Science is influenced by culture, and culture is influenced by science.
What is the focus of anatomy? The structure of an organism and the relationship of its parts.
What is gross anatomy? The study of body parts visible to the naked eye.
What is the study of tissues called? Histology.
What branch of anatomy studies diseased structures? Pathological anatomy.
What does physiology study? The functions of organisms and their systems.
What are Terminologia Anatomica (TA) and Terminologia Histologica (TH)? Official lists of anatomical and histological terms in Latin and English.
Why are eponyms avoided in scientific terminology? To promote clarity and standardization.
What language roots are commonly used in scientific terms? Latin and Greek.
What does autopoiesis mean? Self-organization and self-maintenance in living organisms
What is the smallest unit that exhibits life? The cell.
What are the four major tissue types? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
What level comes after cells in the levels of organization? Tissue level
What is the microbiome? Interacting communities of microorganisms in the human body.
What is the anatomical position? Body erect, arms at sides, palms forward, head and feet forward.
What does "ipsilateral" mean? On the same side of the body.
Define "proximal" and "distal." Proximal = closer to the trunk; Distal = farther from the trunk.
What does "superficial" mean in anatomy? Near the surface of the body.
What plane divides the body into right and left halves? Sagittal plane.
What are the two main body cavities? Dorsal and ventral cavities.
Name the four abdominal quadrants. Right upper, left upper, right lower, left lower quadrants
