Nurse Aid I Module A - The Nurse Aide I Definition List

TermDefinition
AM Care Morning care given to a resident or patient, including hygiene tasks like washing, toileting, dressing, and grooming to help them get ready for the day.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Everyday tasks a person needs to do to take care of themselves, like eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and moving around.
Basic Nursing Skills Fundamental tasks nurse aides perform to help residents with daily care, such as taking vital signs, assisting with hygiene, feeding, and moving patients safely.
Cognition The mental process of thinking, learning, remembering, and understanding.
Delegation The process where a nurse assigns tasks to a nurse aide that are within their job description and scope of practice.
Grooming Activities that help a person look neat and clean, like brushing hair, shaving, and caring for nails.
Health Care Personnel Registry (HCPR) A state list of certified nurse aides and health care workers that records their certification status and any reports or investigations of abuse, neglect, or misconduct.
Hygiene Practices that keep the body clean and healthy, like bathing, hand-washing, and oral care.
Interpersonal Skills The ability to communicate and interact well with others, showing respect, kindness, and understanding.
North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) The state agency that regulates nursing practice, sets standards, and licenses nurses and nurse aides in North Carolina.
North Carolina Board of Nursing Administrative Code The set of rules and regulations established by the North Carolina Board of Nursing that govern the practice of nursing in the state, including license, education, and professional conduct.
NC Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section The division within the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services responsible for overseeing training, certification, and registry management for unlicensed health care workers, such as Nurse Aide I,
North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry A state-maintained list of individuals who have completed an approved Nurse Aide I training program, passed the competency evaluation, and are eligible to work in nursing facilities in North Carolina.
Nurse Aide I in the State of North Carolina A certified healthcare worker who has completed state-approved training and passed the competency exam, allowing them to assist patients with basic nursing care under supervision.
OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) A federal law passed in 1987 that sets quality standards for nursing homes, including training and competency requirements for nurse aides to ensure proper care and protect residents’ rights.
Personal Care Skills Basic tasks that help a person with daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
Work Ethic A set of values focused on doing your job well, being reliable, responsible, and showing a positive attitude at work.
