Human Anatomy

What is the difference between anatomy and physiology? Anatomy is the study of the structure of body parts; physiology is the study of the function of those parts.
What are the levels of structural organization in the human body, from simplest to most complex? Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism.
What is homeostasis? The maintenance of a stable internal environment within the body.
Name the four primary types of tissue in the human body. Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue
What are the main functions of the integumentary system? Protection, temperature regulation, sensation, excretion, and vitamin D synthesis
What is the function of osteocytes? Osteocytes are mature bone cells that maintain bone tissue
What is the function of synovial fluid? Lubricates joints, reduces friction, and nourishes articular cartilage
What is the difference between the appendicular and axial skeleton? The axial skeleton forms the central axis (skull, vertebral column, thoracic cage); the appendicular skeleton includes limbs and girdles
What is the primary function of skeletal muscle tissue? Movement of the body and maintenance of posture.
