What is the control of an experiment? The “normal” set of conditions, or what you are comparing your results to
Define independent and dependent variables Independent variable is the factor that is being tested Dependent variable is the factor that is the result
Is it better to use more or less data in an experiment? More data the more accurate your results will be
How are multicellular and unicellular organisms different? Multicellular organisms are made of two or more cells; are more complex; has cells with specific functions. Unicellular organisms are made of one cell; are simple; cells do not have specific jobs.
What is the nucleus of a cell? the brain or control center of the cell
What are organelles? tiny structures that carry out a specific function within a cell.
What is the stomata? opening in the leaves where water and carbon dioxide exit
What is the pistil? female reproductive organ in a flower
What is the stamen? male reproductive organ in a flower
What is the ovary? contains ovules; site of fertilization
What is the ovule? contains an egg to be fertilized
What is pollination? process of transferring pollen from the male reproductive organ to the female reproductive organ in flowers.
What is photosynthesis? the process of making food for the plant
What is Chlorophyll? green pigment inside chloroplast; where photosynthesis takes place
What are producers, consumers, and decomposers? Producer – produces its own food (plants) Consumers – eats its food (humans, animals) Decomposers – breaks down the nutrients of food (mushrooms)
What is the main source of energy for all living things? The sun.
What's re the different types of consumers? Herbivore – eats only plants Carnivore – eats other animals Omnivore – eats both plants and animals
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web? Food chain is unrealistic; it only shows one thing an animal can eat whereas the food web shows a variety of possible options for the organism to eat. Webs are more realistic.
Where is the most energy in the energy pyramid? At the bottom with the producers.
What can you do to conserve resources and energy? Recycle, carpool, don’t litter
What is the difference between meiosis and cell replication/division? Meiosis is the making of the sex cells; sperm and egg. Each has half the number of chromosomes that are in a regular body cell. Cell replication is the making/replication of regular body cells. Each new cell is an exact duplicate of the original cell.
What would happen if a cell continued to divide uncontrollably? Cancer/tumor
