| Term | Definition |

| crust | the brittle, rocky, least dense, outer layer or Earth |
| mantle | the thick middle layer in the solid part of Earth. |
| core | The dense metallic center of Earth |
| outer core | the liquid layer surrounding the inner core, composed of liquid and iron and nickel. |
| inner core | the innermost geologic layer or Earth, a dense ball of solid iron crystals. |
| metal | a type of substance, typically an element, typically hard, opaque, shiny, and has good electrical and thermal conductivity. |
| temperature | a measure of the average kinetic energy of all of the particles in a substance. |
| pressure | the force exerted over a given area |
| density | a characteristic property of a substance that describes how much mass is packed into a given volume |
