TermDefinition
Biology study of living organisms (life)
hypothesis testable statement based on observations and background information about the possible answer to a scientific question-also can be called a claim
nucleic acid macromolecule that functions to store and transmit genetic information; composed of repeating monomers called nucleotides
amino acid monomer or building block of proteins; sequence is determined by the genetic code of organism
pH measurement of the amount of hydrogen ions in a substance; substances are an acid or base
observation information made about a topic and used to make a hypothesis; usually use the senses
evidence information gathered to help support a hypothesis or claim; data can be in the form of written statements, pictures, diagrams, charts
monomer small molecules that are the building blocks of larger molecules
nucleotide monomer or building block of nucleic acids; composed of repeating sugars, phosphates, and nitrogen base pairs
enzyme specialized proteins that are used as a catalyst in chemical reactions; enzymes are specific to particular substrates
inference statement made based on an observation
carbohydrate macromolecule that is made of simple sugars that functions to provide a quick source of energy for the cell
polymer large molecules made up of small monomers
reactant substances that are put into a chemical reaction
lipid macromolecule that is made of fatty acids and glycerol molecules to function as a long term energy storage
monosaccharide single sugar, such as glucose, that are the monomers of carbohydrates
product substances that are produced from a chemical reaction

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
