Mitosis
| questions | answers |
|---|---|
| what is mitosis? | the process of cell division |
| What is the cell cycle? | parts of a cells life |
| What is the interphase? | Part of the cell cycle where cell is not undergoing mitosis |
| what is Synthesis? | a stage in interphase where the chromosomes of the cell double |
| What is the growth phase? | the stage in interphase where the cell grows and organelles develop |
| What is prophase? | It only has 1 nucleus so it can not be telophase ' -nuclear envelope disappears and chromatin starts to coil up into chromosomes |
| What is metaphase? | Spindle fibres from centrioles connect to the centromere and line up the chromosomes in the middle |
| What is anaphase? | centrioles retract spindle fibres pulling the sister chromatids apart towards each pole of the cell |
| What is telophase? | Nuclear envelope starts to redevelop -it can not be cytokinesis because spindle fibres have not fully retracted yet |
| What is cytokinesis? | The cell membrane pinches off and creates two new daughter cells - it is not telophase because the spindle fibres are already in centrioles |
| What is apoptosis? | A word that describes old cells dying when they no longer function |
| What are cancer cells? | these type of cells are genetically mutated, reproduce an unlimited number of times and never die on its own |
| What is a tumor? | Cells refuse to stop dividing so they clump together |
