Mitosis

questions answers
what is mitosis? the process of cell division
What is the cell cycle? parts of a cells life
What is the interphase? Part of the cell cycle where cell is not undergoing mitosis
what is Synthesis? a stage in interphase where the chromosomes of the cell double
What is the growth phase? the stage in interphase where the cell grows and organelles develop
What is prophase? It only has 1 nucleus so it can not be telophase ' -nuclear envelope disappears and chromatin starts to coil up into chromosomes
What is metaphase? Spindle fibres from centrioles connect to the centromere and line up the chromosomes in the middle
What is anaphase? centrioles retract spindle fibres pulling the sister chromatids apart towards each pole of the cell
What is telophase? Nuclear envelope starts to redevelop -it can not be cytokinesis because spindle fibres have not fully retracted yet
What is cytokinesis? The cell membrane pinches off and creates two new daughter cells - it is not telophase because the spindle fibres are already in centrioles
What is apoptosis? A word that describes old cells dying when they no longer function
What are cancer cells? these type of cells are genetically mutated, reproduce an unlimited number of times and never die on its own
What is a tumor? Cells refuse to stop dividing so they clump together
