Mitosis

QuestionAnswer
What are the two interphase? growth phase and synthesis phase
What is growth phase? the cell is growing and developing its organelles
What is the synthesis phase? the chromosomes replicated in the nucleus
What is mitosis? the life cycle of a cell
What happens in prophase? Centrioles move to opposite poles
what happens in metaphase? spindle fibers attached on the chromosomes and line up in the middle (centromere)
what happens in anaphase? spindle fibers retract and pull 1/2 the chromosomes towards each centriole
what happens in telophase? spindle fibers are back in the centrioles and nuclear envelopes start to form back around both sets of chromosomes
What is a cell check point? 3 parts on the cell cycle where proteins determine whether the cell should divide or not
What is cytokinesis? the cell membrane pinches off in the middle and separates into 2 daughter cells
What is apoptosis? cell dies when it is too old function
What are cancer cells? can undergo mitosis an unlimited number of times
What is a tumor? cells that clump together due to an uncontrollable urge to divide
