Mitosis

The cell division

QuestionAnswer
What is interphase, growth phase and synthesis phase? Interphase is the longest in the cell cycle where the cell grows, replicates its DNA and prepares of cell division.
What is prophase It is when centioles moves to opposite poles and nuclear envelope disappear and chromosomes coil up into visible structure
What is metaphase? Sprindle fibres attach on to the chromosomes and line them up in the middle
What is anaphase? Sprindle fibres retract and pull 1/2 of the chromosomes towards each centriole
What is Telophase? Sprindle fibres are back in the centrioles and nuclear envelope starts to form back around both sets of chromosomes
What is cell check points? There are 3 main checkpoints on the cell cycle where proteins determine whether the cell should divide or not. If the cell does not pass the signal check, it is repaired or destroyed.
What is cytokinesis? It is when cell membrane pinches off in the middle and seperates into 2 daughter cells
What is apoptosis? It is the process of cell suicide. Cells die when it is too old to function
What is cancer cells? They can undergo mitosis unlimited number of times and they never die on its own and they do not function normally because its DNA becomes mutated by genetics, smoking etc.
What is tumor? Cells that clump together due to an uncrontrollable urge to divide
What is growth phase? Growth phase refers to the G1 and G2 where the cell is growing and developing its organelles.
What is synthesis phase? Synthesis phase is when chromosomes replicate in the nucleus.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
