Mitosis
Part C
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is the growth phase | The growth phase is for cells to grow and develop all of its organelles |
| What is the synthesis phase | The synthesis phase is when the chromosomes replicate in the nucleus |
| What is prophase | Centrioles move in opposing directions, the nuclear envelope disappears and chromosomes coil up into visible structures. |
| What is metaphase | Spindle fibres attach onto the chromosomes and line them up in the middle |
| What is anaphase | Spindle fibres retract and pull 1/2 of the chromosomes towards each centriole |
| What is telophase | Spindle fibres are back in the centrioles, nuclear envelopes starts to form back around both set of each centriole |
| What are the cell checkpoints | Cell checkpoints are requirements needed to move onto the next stage of the cell cycle |
| What is cytokinesis | Cell membrane pinches off in the middle & separates into 2 daughter cells |
| What is apoptosis | Cells die when they are to old to function (cell suicide) |
| What are cancer cells | Cancer cells are cells that do not stop going through Mitosis. (Can go through mitosis millions of times as opposed to only 50-60 times) |
| What causes a tumor | Cells clumping together because of an uncontrollable urge to divide |
