Part C:
Mitosis
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| what is pro phase? | the initial stage of both mitosis and meiosis, marking the beginning of cell division |
| what is metaphase? | spindle fibers attach onto the chromosomes and line them in the middle |
| what is anaphase? | spindle fibers retract and pull 1/2 the chromosomes towards each control |
| what is telophase? | Telophase begins once the replicated, paired chromosomes have been separated and pulled to opposite sides, or poles, of the cell. |
| what are the cell check points? | Cell cycle checkpoints are critical control points within the cell cycle that ensure the accuracy and order of cellular processes, especially during cell division |
| what is Cytokineses ? | the cytoplasmic division of a cell at the end of mitosis or meiosis, bringing about the separation into two daughter cells. |
| what is apoptosis? | the death of cells which occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism's growth or development. |
| what are cancer cells? | cancer cells don't carry on maturing or become so specialised. Cells mature so that they are able to carry out their function in the body. |
| what is a tumor ? | an abnormal mass of tissue that forms when cells grow and divide more than they should or don't die when they should. |
| what is interphase? | the longest phase of the cell cycle, where the cell grows, replicates its DNA, and prepares for cell division |
| What is growth phase | a period of physical increase in size and cell division within an organism, or a specific phase in the cell cycle |
| what is synthesis phase | the period when DNA replication occurs |
