Cells & Diffusion

Part A

TermDefinition
Organelles in an Animal Cell that are NOT in a plant cell Lysosomes & Centrioles
Organelles in a Plant cell that are NOT in an animal cell Cell wall & Chloroplasts
Diffusion Movement from areas of high to low concentration of molecules.
Osmosis Movement of water molecules from high to low concentration of water
Permeable Any molecule can diffuse to another membrane
Semi - Permeable Only certain molecules can diffuse to another membrane
Non - Permeable No molecules can diffuse
Nucleus controls the cell growth and reproduction
Cell Membrane Allows molecules to go in/out of the cell, molecules diffuse in/out of a cell & made of 2 phosphorus layers interconnected
Cell Wall Does not allow molecules in/out
Chromosones Proteins that contain DNA which has coded info for making molecules.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) Produces & stores proteins
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) Produces fats & oils
Golgi Bodies Modifies & packages proteins from rough ER with enzymes
Ribosomes Helps rough ER make proteins, & is attached to rough ER
Centrioles helps with mitosis & spindle fibres come from here
Mitochondria Converts sugar into energy for the cell
Cytoplasm Fluid in the cell & allows organelles to move around
Vacuole Stores water, minerals & vitamins ; Much bigger in plant cells
Lysosomes Breaks down food including bacteria, old/damaged organelles
Chloroplasts Uses sunlight to make its own food : photosynthesis (CO2 + H2O + Light --> Sugar + O2)

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
