Cells and Diffusion

Part A

TermDefinition
the cell basic unit of life, cell is made out of smaller parts called organelles
Nucleus Contains all activities of the cell, growth and reproduction, both in A and P
Cell membrane Allows certain molecules to go in or out of the cell, made of two phosphorus layers, in both A and P
Cell Wall supports cell and protects, does not allow anything pass the wall, only in plant
Diffusion Momemnet from areas of high to low concentration of molecules
Chromosomes Proteins that contains DNA, has the condon for making molecules, In both A and P
rough endoplasmic reticulum Produces and stores proteins, in both A and P
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum Produces and stores fats and oils, in both A and P
Golgi Bodies Modifies proteins from rough ER with emzymes, in both A and P
Ribosomes helps rough ER make proteins and is attached to rough ER, in both A and P
Centrioles Helps with cell division (Mitosis) and where spindle fibers come from, Only in A
Mitrochondria Converts sugar into energy for the cell, In both A and P
Cytoplasms Fluid inside the cell, allow organells to move around in both A and P
Vacuole Stores water, minerals and vitamins in both A and P
Lysosomes Breaks down food, bacteria, old/damaged organelles and if the skin dont break down you have cancer, Only In A
Cloroplasts Uses sunlight to make it's own food, Photosyntesis, Only in plants
Formula for photosinthesis CO2 +H2O + Light --> Sugar +O2
Peramable Any molecule can pass through
Semi Peramable Some molecule can pass through ( cell membrane )
Non Peramable No molecule can pass through (Cell wall)
Osmosis Movement of water molecules from high to low concentration of water
Smallest to lowest Organelles - Cells - Tissue - Organs - Organ System

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
