Tides
| Term | Definition |

| Tides | daily changes in the level of the ocean water |
| tidal force | the difference in gravitational force between the sun, moon, and Earth |
| high tide | when the water level is higher than average |
| low tide | the water level is lower than average sea level |
| tidal range | the difference between levels of ocean water at high tide and low tide |
| spring tides | highest high and the lowest low tides, that happen twice a year when the Sun, Earth and Moon are in a straight line. |
| neap tides | tides with the smallest daily tidal range, occur when the sun, Earth and moon form a 90 degree angle |
| First and Third Quarter Moon | Sun, Earth and Moon at 90 degrees creating a Neap Tide |
| New and Full Moon | Sun, Earth and Moon in a line creating a Spring Tide |
