| comprehensive environmental response, compensation, +liability act (CERCLA) | the 1980 "Superfund" act funds the cleanup of abandoned toxic waste sites. it also imposes taxes on chemical industries and allows the government to respond directly to the release of substances that pose as a threat to human health |
| clean air act | the act points out the six criteria air pollutants that are harmful to human health and the environment |
| clean water act | the act supports the protection and propagation of fish, shellfish, wildlife, and recreation in and on the water. it issued water quality standards that defined acceptable limits on the various pollutants in US waterways |
