heterodont teeth having teeth with different sizes and shapes; in mammals
omnivore eat both plants and animals
herbivore eats only plants
carnivore kills and eats prey
larynx voice box; allows for vocalization and communication in mammals
monotremes egg laying mammals such as platypus and echidna
marsupials pouched animals such as kangaroos and koalas; underdeveloped embryo migrates from uterus to pouch where development continues
eutherians placental mammals; nourish their young through the placenta in the uterus and give birth to better developed young after gestation
gestation the developmental time in the uterus before birth
estrous the time when a female is fertile
4 chambered heart type of circulatory pump found in birds, mammals, and crocodilians
lungs organ of respiration for amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals
endothermic also referred to as warm blooded; describes the source of body heat for birds and mammals
amniotic egg egg with membranes surrounding the embryo as well as a shell
