| Frontal lobe | personality, decision-making, movement, recognition of smell, and speech ability. |
| Parietal lobe | identify objects and understand spatial relationships (where one’s body is compared with objects around the person), interpreting pain and touch, understand spoken language. |

| Temporal lobe | short-term memory, speech, musical rhythm and some degree of smell recognition |
| Cerebellum | coordinate voluntary muscle movements and to maintain posture, balance and equilibrium |
| Postcentral gyrus | somatosensory (sensory information) |
| Precentral gyrus | motor control (controlling and directing voluntary/involuntary movement) |
| Basal Ganglia | control of movements, learning, habit, cognition, and emotion |

| Corpus callosum | allows the brain's hemispheres to communicate |
| Pituitary gland | in charge of other gland functions in the body, regulating the flow of hormones from the thyroid, adrenal, ovaries and testicles |
| Superior colliculus | visual attention, coordinating eye and head movements, and orienting behaviors |
| Reticular formation | sleep, attention, movement, the maintenance of muscle tone, and various cardiac, circulatory and respiratory reflexes |
| Medulla | controls involuntary functions that are essential for survival, including breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure |
