Cells/Body Systems

TermDefinition
Tissue a multicellular organism / group of specialised cells that all have similar jobs/functions
Organ a group of cells and tissues that is made for a specific job/purpose
Circulatory/cardiovascular system the group of organs in our body that allows oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients and hormones get to our cells through blood flow
Digestive system the group of organs that allows food to be broken down and digested into useful nutrients for our body
Nervous system the system that allows nerves to travel around our bodies to deliver information to our brain and vice versa
A system a group of organs that work together to do a job inside our bodies
Skeletal System Protects and supports body organs and provides a framework the muscles use to support movement. Made up of bones and joints
Organisation Cells-tissue-organ-organ system- organism
Breathing in Lungs go up and out Diaphragm goes down Chest volume increase
Breathing out Lungs go down and in Diaphragm goes up Chest volume decreases
examples of hinge joints elbow and knee
Example of ball-and-socket joints hip and shoulder
Example of fixed joints skull
Bending arm biceps contract, triceps relax
Relaxing arm Biceps relax, triceps contract
Muscular System Allows movement for contracting
Endocrine System Regulates body activities using hormones
Immune Stystem Fight off foreign invaders in the body
Integumentary Systems Produces vitamin D and remove excretory waste
lymphatic system Collets excess fluid
Reprouductive System Allows organisms to reproduce
digestive system Takes in food, digest it and removes unwanted waste
circulatory system Transports materials to and from cells
nervous system Gather and interprets information
exretory system Removes waste and maintains water balance in the body.
respiratory system Brings oxygen into the body. Gets rid of carbon dioxide.
What are the seven essential life processes Movment , Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth,
Reproduction,
Excretion and Nutrition
Why do we have a skeleton To support the body and protect vital organs and help the body move
One feature of a synovial joints freely movable joints
What are the bones attached by to the skeleton Ligaments
How are bones connected to the muscles By tendons
What can't muscles do and can do It can not push but can pull
How does oxygen travel from the air into our blood Enters nose then moves down trachea and then moves down bronchus and then moves through bronchiole, moves into alveolus, then oxygen diffuses into blood
How can lung volume be reduced Smoking ,asthma, old age
