Chapter 5 &Chapter6 by mo

TermDefinition
mechanism Its made up of several different types of machines that work together to perform a specific task.
Simple Machine Its a machine that needs force to function.
Lever its a bar that is supported at a pivot point.
fulcrum its where a lever rests.
pulley Its a Wheel that that has a rope or a cable looped around it.
Inclined Plane Its basically a larger wedge, it's used by lifting items.
screw Its an inclined plane wrapped around a rod
Wedge Its an inclined Plane that travels through an object
efficiency the blank of a machine measures the useful work done by the machine compared to the work needed to operated
wheel and axel it consists of a shaft that is attached to a larger disk
automated system It's a system that's made to perform a task on its own with little to no human interference.
non-mechanical systems it includes procedures, processes, and people needed to perform a task.
quantitative assessment involves analysis of numerical data
productivity amount of output that is produced per unit of time.
criteria its basically a rubric of sorts.
first type of criteria..efficiency effeciency, they monitor the efficiency of a system of sorts.
second type of criteria..cost cost, they monitor the price/cost a system takes.
third type of criteria..safety safety, they monitor how safe a system is.
fourth type of criteria..environmental impact environmental impact, they monitor the impact the system would do to the environment.
formula for work equals force X distance.
work input ideally equals work output.
mechanical advantage formula equals force output/force input.
ideal mechanical advantage forula equals distance input/distance output.
efficiency formula Useful output work/ input work X 100 for percentage
components pieces of a system that need to interact to function.
consumer an individual that uses the goods or services provided by a system.
mass production it's the production of large amounts of a product type by an automated mechanical process.
qualitative assessment its an assessment made by observations ex, my art got a good rating.
useful output work the energy that is effectively passed on or used by a device or system, excluding any energy that is wasted or lost as heat
societal needs the essential requirements and interests of a community or society.
product manual its a document that teaches users how to succesfully use it
useful output work formula Dout x Fout
lever IMA length of input arm /length of output arm
wedge & inclined plane IMA length of ramp/height of ramp
screw IMA Din/Dout
pulley IMA number of segments
wheel and axel IMA radius of wheel/radius of axel
all types of criteria efficiency, cost, safety, environmental impact.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
