What does the sodium-potassium pump do in nerve signals? It maintains resting membrane potential. It moves Na+ out of the cell and K+ into the cell.
What are the two main parts of the autonomic nervous system (ANS)? What do they do? Sympathetic (fight-or-flight): Increases heart rate, dilates pupils. Parasympathetic (rest-and-digest): Decreases heart rate, stimulates digestion.
Which gland makes insulin? Pancreas
What is cardiac output? Blood pumped by the heart per minute
What is the main job of lymphatic vessels? Return fluid (lymph) to the blood; help with immunity.
What does hemoglobin do with oxygen? Carries oxygen in red blood cells.
Where does most nutrient absorption happen? small intestine
Which organs control blood pH? lungs and kidneys
What is an action potential? A rapid change in nerve cell's electrical potential that transmits a signal.
What are the three layers of the heart wall? Epicardium, Myocardium, and Endocardium.
