Components of Blood

QuestionAnswer
What are the three main components of blood? Plasma, formed elements (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
What is the primary function of erythrocytes? To transport oxygen and carbon dioxide.
What is another name for erythrocytes? Red blood cells (RBCs).
What is the primary function of leukocytes? To defend the body against infection and disease.
What is another name for leukocytes? White blood cells (WBCs).
What is the function of thrombocytes? To aid in blood clotting.
What is another name for thrombocytes? Platelets.
What is plasma mostly made of? Water (about 90%).
Name two important substances found in plasma besides water. Proteins (like albumin, clotting factors) and nutrients (like glucose, amino acids).
Which blood component is responsible for carrying hormones, nutrients, and waste products? Plasma.
