| Multicellular organism | An organism composed of two or more cells. |
| Unicellular organism | An organism composed of one cell. For example, bacteria or yeast. |
| Chloroplast | Green structure that contains chlorophyll. Found only in plant cells and uses energy from the sun to make food. |
| Vacuole | Storage for the cell, holds food water and waste. Larger in plant cells. |
| Cell membrane | The outermost layer of an animal cell, the second layer of a plant cell. Controls what goes in and out of the cell. |
| Cell wall | The outer layer of a plant cell, it supports the cell structure. |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | There are two, rough and smooth. Together this is considered the highway system of the cell. |
| Cell Theory | The principle that states that all cells come from previously existing cells. |
| Ribosome | These structures build and synthesize proteins for the cell. |
| Mitochondria | The powerhouse of the cell, releases energy. |
| Lysosome | This is considered the custodian of the animal cell. Removes waste. |
| Centriole | Involved in cell division, located in an animal cell. |
