| Fossil Fuel | a nonrenewable energy source formed from the remains of prehistoric lifeforms |
| Clean water act | a US law passed in 1972 that regulates the release of pollutants into its water |
| Point-source pollution | pollution with a single, identifiable source |
| monoculture | the cultivation of a single crop in a given area |
| air pollution | contamination of air, indoor or outdoor, by a chemical, physical, or biological agent |
| Primary air pollutant | an air contaminant that is emitted directly from a source, such as a smokestack, car, powerplant, etc. |
