Peripheral nervous system - consists of cranial and spinal nerves - connects CNS to muscles, glands, & all sensory receptors
Autonomic nervous systems - sensory neurons from visceral organs to CNS - motor neurons to smooth and cardiac muscle and glands * sympathetic division (speeds up heart rate) - makes pupils larger * parasympathetic division (slow down heart rate) - makes pupils smaller
What are the 4 phases of processing food in your body? Ingestion, digestion, absorption and elimination
What are the major organs of the digestive tract? Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus
What is the primary function of the digestive system? To break down and absorb nutrients, salts, and water, as well as to eliminate some wastes.
