what is the master gland? The pituitary gland (also called the hypophysis cerebri) is a small but mighty structure. It measures only 1.2 to 1.5 cm (about 1⁄2 inch) across.
what hormones are secreted by the anterior pituitary gland? growth hormone (GH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), hyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) , hyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
what hormones are secreted by the posterior pituitary gland? Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), Oxytocin (OT)
What are the two parts of the autonomic nervous system? the sympathetic division and the parasympathetic division
The sympathetic division is also known to activate what? the fight or flight response
Where are the parasympathetic neuron cell bodies located? nuclei of the brainstem and the lateral gray columns of the sacral cord.
Small branches from the cervical plexus join which two cranial nerves? Hypoglossal and accessory
what is the difference between an artery or a vein? An artery is a vessel that carries blood away from the heart. Aorta and the pulmonary trunk are among the great vessels of the heart. A vein is a vessel that carries blood toward the heart. The superior vena cava and inferior vena cava are great vessels.
What are semilunar valves? The semilunar (SL) valves of the heart consist of pocketlike flaps (leaflets)The semilunar valves prevent blood from flowing back into the ventricles of the heart after it has been pumped out.
The divisions of the thoracic cavity include? left pleural cavity, right pleural cavity, & mediastinum.
