Chorus A group of actors who describe and comment on the main action of a play by singing, dancing, and reacting
Stage Directions Describe when and where a scene takes place, how an actor should deliver their lines
Pentameter A poetic meter in which a line of poetry consists of 5 feet of stressed and unstressed syllables
Verse All the lines of a play follow a specific pattern of stressed/unstressed syllables. Has a set rhythm and meter.
Prose Written or spoken language in its everyday form - without rhyme like poetry (no rhythm)
Soliloquy Speech delivered by a character while alone on stage (or believing they are alone) when they reveal their inner thoughts/feelings
Short Pause A brief break in the dialogue, indicated with a comma
Long pause Extended silence, indicated with a colon, period, exclamation point, etc.
Ellipses The narrative device for omitting a portion of the sequence of events, allowing the reader to fill in the narrative gaps
Act A major division or section of a play or other dramatic work, typically containing several scenes
Scene A subdivision of an act or play not divided into acts (location or time)
Prologue A speech or introductory section delivered before the main action of a play begins

Stressed syllable loudest/more forceful enunciation w/in word uses: /
