| Niche | How an organisms makes its living and interacts with the biotic and abiotic factors in its habitat |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resources in the same place at the same time |
| Predation | An interaction in which one organism kills another for food or nutrients |
| Symbiosis | Any relationship in which two species live closely together and that benefits at least one of the species |
| Commensalism | A type of symbiosis between two species in which one species benefits and the other species is neither helped or harmed |
| Mutualism | A type of symbiosis in which both species benefits and the from living together |
| Parasitism | A type of symbiosis in which one organism lives with, on, or in a host and harms it |
| Succession | The series of predictable changed that occur in a community over time |
| Pioneer Species | The first species to populate an area during succession |
| Biodiversity | The number and variety of different species in an area |
| Keystone Species | A species that influences the survival of many other species in an ecosystem |
| Extinction | The disappearance of all members of a species from Earth |
| Invasive Species | Species that are not native to a habitat and can out-compete native species in an ecosystem |
| Ecosystem Services | The benefits the humans derive from ecosystems |
| Ecology | The study of how organisms that live in a particular area, along with their nonliving environment |
| Natural Resource | Anything naturally occurring in the environment that humans use |
| Conservation | The practice of using less of a resource so that it can last longer |
| Sustainability | The ability of an ecosystem to maintain biodiversity and production indefinitely |
| Ecological Restoration | The practice of helping a degreased or destroyed ecosystem recover from damage |
