Surface to Groundwater
| Term | Definition |

| Aquifer | an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock, rock fractures or unconsolidated materials from which groundwater can be extracted using a water well. |
| Gravel | a loose collection of small water-worn or pounded stones. |
| Permeability | The ability of a rock or sediment to let fluids pass through its open spaces, or pores |
| Porosity | the fraction of void space in the material, where the void may contain, for example, air or water. |
| Sand | a loose material consisting of grains of rock or coral |
| Saturated | holding as much water or moisture as can be absorbed; thoroughly soaked. |
| Sediment | matter that has moved then settled to the bottom of a liquid in a new location. |
| Silt | A mixture of rich soil and tiny rocks |
| Surface Water | water that collects on the surface of the ground. |
| Watershed | an area of land that drains into a body of water |
| Contaminated | Something that causes impurity; something that defiles or pollutes |
| Groundwater | water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers. |
| Water Table | upper surface of the saturated zone, the underground layer where all spaces between soil and rock are filled with water, separating the unsaturated zone above from the saturated zone below. |
| Unsaturated | capable of absorbing or dissolving more of something. an unsaturated solution |
