TermDefinition
Heart Pumps blood throughout the body.
Arteries Takes oxygen rich blood from the heart to the body.
Veins Takes oxygen poor blood from the body back to the heart.
Capillaries Tiny blood vessels where exchange of materials occurs between veins and arteries.
Trachea Pipe that connects mouth and lungs also known as the windpipe
Bronchi/Bronchioles Two large tubes that carry air from your windpipe to your lungs
Lungs Takes in O2 and expels CO2.
Diaphragm Muscle that moves up and down to control the movement of the lungs
Oxygen what we breathe in (inspire)
Carbon Dioxide what we breathe out (expire)
Nervous System Gathers and interprets information from your body and then responds to that information to help your body function and stay safe.
Circulatory System Responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, oxygen, and other gasses, and hormones to and from cells
Respiratory System Takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the body.
Skeletal System It protects your organs, provides shape and structure for your body, produces blood cells, and allows movement in your body.
Muscular System Allows us to Move and Make all organs work.
IntegumentarySystem 1st line of defense against disease and pathogens. Helps maintain homeostasis and removes waste.
Immune System System that recognizes, attacks, and removes foreign cells or substances that may cause disease
Cellular Respiration
Mouth/Nasal Cavity allow air to enter and leave the body
Homeostasis Process that maintains balance and a stable internal environment.
Heart, Blood, Blood vessels Circulatory system
Alveoli Tiny sacs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs in your bloodstream.
Red Blood Cells Carry oxygen throughout the body
White Blood Cells Fight pathogens and foreign substance
Blood Vessels part of the circulatory system that blood travels through after leaving the heart/lungs
