| Germinate – | the period in a plant’s life cycle when a seed begins to grow (after a period of dormancy) |
| Life cycle – | sequential stages of growth and development that an organism goes through in its lifetime |
| Metamorphosis – | a transformation in a life cycle that occurs when the young animal’s body looks very different from the adult |
| Drought – | a shortage of rain over a long period of time |
| Ecosystem – | a community of interacting living organisms and the physical environment that they live in |
| Environment– | the surrounding or conditions in which an organism must survive |
| Flood – | a rise of water with no place for water to go |
| Flow of energy – | the movement of energy from the Sun, between organisms, and out of the environment |
| Food chain – | representation of the dependence of living organisms on each other for food |
