QuestionAnswer
Environment – the surrounding or conditions in which an organism must survive
Function – what something is used for; purpose
Structure – a part or group of parts of an organism
Survive – continue to live or exist
Germinate – the period in a plant’s life cycle when a seed begins to grow (after a period of dormancy)
Life cycle – sequential stages of growth and development that an organism goes through in its lifetime
Metamorphosis – a transformation in a life cycle that occurs when the young animal’s body looks very different from the adult
Drought – a shortage of rain over a long period of time
Ecosystem – a community of interacting living organisms and the physical environment that they live in
Environment– the surrounding or conditions in which an organism must survive
Flood – a rise of water with no place for water to go
Flow of energy – the movement of energy from the Sun, between organisms, and out of the environment
Food chain – representation of the dependence of living organisms on each other for food
Fossil – the impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in rock
Natural change – a change to our environment that happens naturally or without human intervention
Sun closest star to Earth and provides heat and light (energy)
Survive to live
Consumer an organism that consumes (eats) other things to get energy
Organism a living thing
Producer an organism that produces (makes) its own food (energy) using the sun
Carnivore an organism that eats only meat
Energy the power to make them move or change
Herbivore an organism that eats only plants (no meat)
Interact living and nonliving things affecting each other
Omnivore an organism that eats both plants AND animals
Pollen a fine powder that plants release into the air to fertilize (pollinate) other plants
Pollination the process of fertilizing plants with pollen
Affect to cause change in or influence something
Removal to take away
Drought a long period of time with no water
Flood too much water where it is not supposed to be
Perish to die
Thrive to live well (be happy, healthy, strong)
