Adaptations
| Term | Definition |

| Producers | Organisms that produce or make their own food using the Sun's energy. |
| Consumers | Organisms that obtain their energy (food) from producers or other consumers. |
| Herbivore | An animal that obtains energy and nutrients from eating plants. |
| Omnivore | An animal that obtains energy and nutrients from eating both plants and animals. |
| Carnivore | An animal that obtains energy and nutrients from eating other animals. |
| Food Chains | Plants and animals are dependent (need!) each other for survival |
| Prey | An organism that is killed or eaten by another organism for energy. |
| Predator | An organism that kills and eats another organism (prey) for energy. |
| Life Cycle Variations | Differences in the way that animals and plants reproduce can help them survive in an environment. |
| Behavioral Adaptations | Behaviors that animals DO can help them survive. |
| Inherited Behavior | Behavior an animal is born knowing how to do; it is instinct |
| Learned Behavior | Behavior that is learned by watching others |
| Physical Adaptations | The way an animal LOOKS can help a plant or animal survive. |
| Adaptations | Physical or behavioral characteristics that increase its chances of survival in its environment |
