phon Greek “Sound”
symphony (n) a long piece of music that is usually in four large, separate sections and that is performed by an orchestra.
cacophony (n) unpleasant loud sounds.
homophone (n) a word that is pronounced like another word but is different in meaning, origin, or spelling.
phonetic (adj) representing each speech sound with a single symbol; using a system of written symbols that represent speech sounds in a way that is very close to how they actually sound.
microphone (n) a divide into which people speak or sing in order to record their voices or to make them sound louder
photograph (n) an instrument for reproducing sounds by means of the vibration of a stylus or needle following a spiral groove on a revolving disc or cylinder
phonics (n) a method of teaching beginners to read and pronounce words by learning the phonetic value of letters, letter groups, and especially syllables.

photosynthesis (n) the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water.
photon (n) a tiny particle or bundle of electromagnetic radiation, which comprises light.
photosensitive (adj) having a chemical, electrical, or other response to light.
photobiotic (adj) living or thriving only in the presence of light.
photography (n) the art, process, or job of taking pictures with a camera named after the original process that used light to expose an image on special paper
photic (adj) of or relating to light, especially as an agent of chemical change or physiological response ie. the photic zone of the ocean is where sunlight penetrates and photosynthesis takes place
