Conservation the process of protecting a natural resource

Erosion the process in which particles are broken away and removed from land
Evaporation a slow change from a liquid to a gas
Fossil Fuel A substance formed from dead organisms that can be used for energy
Nonrenewable Resource a natural resource that can be used up or that cannot be replaced
Precipitation when water falls from the sky as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
Recycle make something new from something old
Renewable Resource a natural resource that cannot be used up or that can be replaced
Sand Dune a landform made when sand is deposited into a mound or ridge
Sedimentary Rock a type of rock formed by layers of sediment hardening over time
Water Cycle The way that water moves around Earth in different forms
Weathering the breaking down of landforms by natural forces
Abiotic the nonliving parts of an ecosystem
Beneficial something that is helpful
Biotic The living or once-living parts of an ecosystem
Consumer an organism that eats other organisms
Cycle a series of events in a repeating pattern
Decomposer an organism that breaks down dead plant and animal matter
Drought a long period of time with little to no rainfall
Ecosystem an area where living and nonliving parts of the environment interact
Habitat the place or environment an organism normally lives
Harmful to cause damage
Organism A living thing
Pollution the introduction of a substance that can harm the environment
Predator an animal that hunts other animals
Prey an animal that is hunted by other animals
Producer an organism that makes its own food
Adaptation an inherited trait that helps an organism survive
Behavior how an organism interacts with its environment and other organisms
Function what something does
Inherited passed down from parent to offspring
Instinct an inherited behavior
Learned Behavior a behavior developed through experience
Species a type of plant or animal
Structure the way parts are organized or arranged
