| refract | to bend light or sound waves |
| wavelength | the distance from one peak to another |
| reflect | to bounce energy off an object |
| amplitude | the height of a wave |
| pitch | the highness or lowness of a sound |
| medium | the matter through which a sound wave travels |
| longitudinal waves | waves in which the vibration travels forward and backward |
| electromagnetic radiation | a form of wave energy that has both electrical and magnetic properties |
| frequency | the number of wave peaks that pass a given point every second |
| concave lens | a lens that causes light to spread |
| peak | the highest point of a wave |
