TermDefinition
Pathogens microorganisms or other organisms that can cause disease in a host
Lymph Fluid a clear, watery fluid that carries nutrients and white blood cells throughout the body
Lymph Vessels thin tubes that carry lymph fluid throughout the body
Tonsils two round, fleshy masses in the back of your throat (pharynx) that help filter out germs that enter through your nose or mouth to protect the rest of your body from infection
Spleen An organ that is part of the lymphatic and blood systems. It filters the blood to help destroy microorganisms and get rid of old or damaged red blood cells. It also makes lymphocytes (white blood cells) and stores blood cells.
Bone Marrow the spongy tissue in the hollow centers of a person's long bones. It is the blood cell 'factory'.
Thymus a small, gland-like organ located in the upper chest, behind the breastbone. It plays a crucial role in the immune system by producing and training T cells (lymphocytes) that fight infections and protect the body from diseases
T-cells part of the immune system and develop from stem cells in the bone marrow. They help protect the body from infection and may help fight cancer
White Blood Cells cells that circulate in your blood and are part of your immune system, primarily responsible for fighting off infections and protecting your body from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses
Vaccine an injection that contains weakened or inactivated forms of disease-causing microorganisms (bacteria or viruses) or their components which helps the body fight infection
Antigen a substance that triggers an immune response in the body
Symptoms a physical or mental change that indicates a possible illness or condition
