3rd Grade Unit 8 Vocabulary - Ecosystems

Dormancy a period in a life cycle when growth, development, and activity temporarily stops
Drought a shortage of rain over a long period of time
Ecosystem a community of interacting living organisms and the physical environment that they live in
Environment the surrounding or conditions in which an organism must survive
Flood a rise of water with no place for water to go
Flow of Energy the movement of energy from the Sun, between organisms, and out of the environment
Food Chain representation of the dependence of living organisms on each other for food
Fossil the impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in rock
Hibernation a time of rest or deep sleep through the cold winter
Migration to move from one place to another
Natural Change a change to our environment that happens naturally or without human intervention
