| white lie | a lie that is told in order to be polite or to stop someone from being upset by the truth. |
| To fib | A small or trivial lie, often told to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or to avoid trouble. |
| To deceive | To cause someone to believe something that is not true, typically in a more intentional or harmful way. |
| To stretch the truth | To exaggerate or distort the facts, making something sound more impressive or dramatic than it actually is. |
| To fabricate | To invent something false, often with the intent to deceive. |
| To tell a whopper | To tell a very big or blatant lie. |
| To cover up | To hide or conceal the truth, often to protect oneself or others from the consequences of a lie or mistake. |
| To embellish | To add extra details or exaggerate aspects of a story to make it more entertaining or dramatic, even if those details aren’t entirely true |
| To tell a half-truth | To tell part of the truth but leave out important details, making the full picture unclear or misleading. |
