Appearance the way something looks
Cycle a repeating pattern or process that happens over and over again in a predictable way
Autumn Fall; a season marked by fewer daylight hours and decreasing temperatures
Axis An imaginary line around which objects rotate
Earth A planet that has water and supports living things
Revolve To move around another object
Seasons A pattern of increasing and decreasing light and heat from the Sun each year due to Earth’s tilt and revolution
Spring A season marked by increasing daylight hours and rising temperatures
Summer A season marked by high temperatures and long periods of direct sunlight
Sun A star that provides light and heat on Earth
WInter A season marked by low temperatures and short periods of direct sunlight
Crescent Moon A phase that occurs before and after the New Moon
First Quarter Moon The right half of the Moon appears illuminated in our night sky; the third phase of the lunar cycle
Full Moon The whole Moon appears illuminated in our night sky; the fifth phase of the lunar cycle
Gibbous Moon A phase that occurs before and after the Full Moon
Last Quarter The left half of the Moon appears illuminated in our night sky; the seventh phase of the lunar cycle
Lunar Cycle A series of phases the Moon goes through as it revolves around Earth
Moon A body in space that orbits a planet; a natural satellite
New Moon The first phase of the lunar cycle; the Moon appears invisible in our night sky
Orbit The path an object takes as it revolves around a star, planet, or moon
Sequence The order of objects or events that form a pattern
Waning To shrink or decrease in size
Waxing To grow or increase in size
Rotate when an object turns around its own axis
Pattern a repeated event or sequence
Moon Phase the changing apparent shape of the moon
