inorganic nutrients do NOT contain carbon(C)
organic nutrients DO contain carbon(C)
what contains organic nutrients? protein, fat, carbs, and vitamins
what contain inorganic nutrients? minerals
essential nutrients(indispensible nutrients) those that the body can NOT make- needed to be obtained by food

micronutrients water, vitamins, and minerals do NOT provide energy
food energy measured in calories
calories(equals) units of HEAT or ENERGY
calories(defined) amount of heat required to raise the temp. of 1 kilo of water 1 degree celsius
How many calories/gram of CHO? 4calories/gram
how many calories/gram of protein? 4 calories/gram
How many calories/gram of fat? 9 calories/gram
Placebos used to control placebo effect with subjects in experminets(participents don't know of they're in experimental of control group)
Double-Blind researchers and subjects do NOT know their groups(prevents researcher bias)
Estimated Energy Requirement(EER) average daily energy intake to maintain energy(calorie) balance
Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range(AMDR) recommended range of intakes for energy nutrient
AMDR of CHO 45-65%
AMDR of fat 20-35%
